Spring is Here, How Will You Grow?

Spring is here, bringing a surge of new energy, movement, and possibility. Just like nature wakes up after winter’s stillness, our bodies and spirits also respond to the season’s shift. In Chinese medicine, spring is governed by the Wood element, which encourages growth, vision, and expansion—but can also bring up frustration, restlessness, or stagnation when we resist its movement.

Attuning to Spring’s Flow
• The Liver & Gallbladder Are in Focus – These organs are associated with Wood energy, supporting our ability to plan, make decisions, and move forward with clarity.
• Stretch, Move, & Shake Off Stagnation – If you’ve been feeling tense, irritable, or stuck, it might be your body telling you to move more. Gentle stretching, walking outside, and deep breathing help Liver Qi flow smoothly.
• Fresh Greens for a Fresh Start – Incorporating leafy greens, sprouts, and sour flavors like lemon or apple cider vinegar helps support Liver function and balance spring’s energy.
Taking a Pause Before the Rush Forward
Spring is often seen as a time for action and renewal, but true alignment comes from moments of stillness as well as movement. Before rushing into the next phase, take a moment to pause and check in:
• What do you truly want to cultivate this season?
• What patterns from winter still need space to unravel?
• Where can you soften, allowing change to unfold naturally rather than forcing it?
Spring’s momentum is powerful, but it isn’t about pushing—it’s about allowing. Just as plants don’t strain to grow, we can trust our natural unfolding when we create the right conditions.
A Simple Practice for Spring Alignment
Try this walking meditation to harmonize with the season:
1. Find a natural space—even a small park or backyard will do.
2. Walk slowly and intentionally, breathing deeply.
3. With each step, notice how the earth supports you and how the world around you is shifting.
4. Allow your mind to settle into the rhythm of movement—no forcing, just flowing.
This season, give yourself permission to pause, listen, and grow in your own time.
